The University of Zakho (UoZ) is a public higher education institution in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, officially established as an independent university on 8 July 2010, with its academic foundations dating back to 2005. The University comprises colleges and academic departments covering science, humanities, engineering, medicine, education, administration and economics, and law, and offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
The University places strong emphasis on scientific research, innovation, quality assurance, and internationalization. In recent years, UoZ has achieved notable progress in international university rankings, strengthening its academic and research position within the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
UoZ maintains extensive national and international academic cooperation and has signed numerous Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with universities and academic institutions in Iraq and abroad. It actively participates in international programs, including Erasmus+ projects, and promotes academic mobility, joint research, capacity building, and knowledge exchange.
The University also organizes and participates in numerous national and international conferences, workshops, seminars, and scientific activities. Through its expanding international partnerships, research activities, and community engagement, the University of Zakho continues to enhance its contribution to higher education, scientific development, and international academic collaboration.
